Founder, lead instructor
mike huffman

Martial arts have played a role in Mike’s life from an early age. His father had belts in disciplines still unknown to Mike to this day. Mike took brief training in Aikido in high school, and then began formal training while attending the C.I.A. in New York where he practiced in Aiki Jujutsu Aikido, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, and kick boxing.

He was then motivated by a friend and coworker, who began instruction under Sigung Don Wilhelm in Aiki Juijutsu, to try a private with this extremely passionate martial artist. Mike was motivated to practice diligently after one class. He dove into the realistic, no pretense and honest disciplines of Kajukenbo, Aiki, BJJ, American Open Style, JKD, Escrima, Silat and Chinese Kenpo. In 1 year and 3 months he attained black belt, only the second ever given by Sigung Wilhelm, in the Pierce Family Method of Kajukenbo. Sigung Wilhelm states that Mike is the most tenacious, structured, and disciplined student he has had. Mike is a 3rd degree in Kajukenbo with the title Sifu, giving by Don Wilhelm, Robert Suttles and Tony Bowls, Grandmasters (9 degrees) in Kajukenbo. He received his 5th degree by Grand Master Robert Suttles. He purchased the school from Sigung Wilhelm in 2013 and founded KaJu A.R.T.S. In 2015, he co-founded the Gathering of Legends with Grandmaster Robert Suttles.

Mike has taken his recent martial arts training into almost every aspect of his life. He credits martial arts with giving him confidence, a new personal perspective, and a desire to excel in all facets of his life; both personal and professional.

Self - defense

Students will learn effective and powerful self-defense skills as well as the fundamental attitudes appropriate to those skills. The basic attitudes of a successful martial artist ( and of a successful person ) are respect discipline, goal-setting and effective leadership.

respect

Through the martial art philosophy and customs, students learn to build superior relationships based on respect and friendship.

discipline

Through martial arts training, students develop respect, self-motivation, and self-discipline.

goal setting

This is a necessary road map for a successful life.  It is said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”  On the road towards Black Belt, students gain the experience and feeling of success by earning progressively higher belt ranks.

leadership

Students develop communications skills as they work with each other. At the level of Black Belt, students may participate in our Leadership Training Program.

Kaju A.R.T.S. is a “Black Belt” School; our goal is that all students earn their “Black Belt” not only in Martial Arts but in life as well. Working towards this creates an environment in which the students develop confidence through accomplishing high, but realistic and attainable goals.

Our Vision

Kaju A.R.T.S. is a certified school; our goal is that all students earn their “Black Belt” not only in Martial Arts but in life as well.

code of conduct

Students must not misuse the art they are learning, and disciplinary measures may be taken against any student doing so. Integrity is an important part of martial arts training. A person’s word is their bond. Martials artists are always respectful when dealing with instructors or fellow students both in and outside of class.
