Self-Defense
for Bullying or Battered Women/Men

“The defense of one’s person or interests, especially through the use of physical force, which is permitted in certain cases as an answer to a charge of violent crime.”*

What You Will Learn

Bullying is real! It’s not imagined or something you just get over.  It causes real physical and emotional damage.

Bullying includes some type of repeated harsh intent to harm someone else or gain control over them.

Learning self defense techniques can help you gain the confidence to overcome your fears and “face the giant”.

We teach how to defuse confrontations if possible, but offer techniques to neutralize a threat and gain control until help arrives.

Our program includes:

  • Increased Awareness: Harassment comes in many forms. Sometimes, a victim doesn’t take a stand because they can’t differentiate between joking and bullying or may take some teasing to be liked by the bully, but over time, the victim becomes worn down and unable to stand up against the abuse. We teach how to know the difference and be able to decide when and how to act in any given circumstance.
  • Unshakable Confidence: A confident person is “bully proof” because a bully will look for an easy target, or those who might tolerate the abuse. We teach you the tools needed to overcome physical, verbal and psychological harassment and how to know how to deal with an aggressor safely, or with force if needed.
  • Total Responsibility:  We emphasize discipline, responsibility, and respect so you can avert an aggressor, not become one!  Never abuse the knowledge and power that you learn.  Use for the good of yourself and others.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Teaching comes with understanding that martial art skills and techniques are used for self-defense only when necessary. Knowing when you can, and cannot, use these techniques is just as important as learning them.  We suggest these rules of engagement to overcome bullying or battered syndrome.

  • Rule 1: Avoid the fight at all costs.
  • Rule 2: If physically attacked, defend yourself.
  • Rule 3: If verbally attacked, know the truth and be ready to defend.
  • Rule 4: Never initiate physical contact with the bully, take control and negotiate.
  • Rule 5: When using martial arts skills and techniques, use minimal force and negotiate.

Self Defense

Focuses on training inner and outer strength to increase the victim’s ability and endurance to gain control or fight an aggressor. Soft Forms are mostly used to enhance a victim’s intimidation toward an aggressor and ward off a direct fight with an opponent.  Hard Forms are used to gain power and muscle tone to gain control or fight an aggresor.

Rapidity

Focuses on quick and rapid responses to a bully’s aggressive behavior.  Knowing the difference between teasing or harassment and real intimidation tactics, can increase the response time and avoid attacks in the future.

Reaction

Focuses on a how to respond to different types of bully behavior, repeated aggressive treatment, avoid a bad situation, or stimulating an aggresor.
